I have survived our big annual work to-do today, including a guest speaker from Toyota to discuss all the developments with hybrids and such. It's fitting since I work for a non-profit all about getting the single driver-high emission cars off the road. Yes, there were Hummer jokes - but anyone who drives a Hummer deserves to be made fun of and the speaker mentioned that Hybrids are big in our area, but if you head South or Midwest, they make fun of them. Le sigh.
Anyway, I'm hoping things will calm down some at least on the work front now for awhile. The two big things of my year - the audit and the member breakfast - are done.

To celebrate my pending work successes, I went to Best Buy on my lunch yesterday and picked up:
Season two of Supernatural is out. More Sammy and Dean fighting evil and being the best pair of brothers on television (Though Nathan & Peter Petrelli are a close second). This show has banter, amazing characters, and occasionally interesting lore. But really, it's all about Sam & Dean as characters and their relationship. I love them a whole lot and I adore how much they love each other.
I've wanted to buy this for awhile, but my family & friends kept telling me that I wasn't allowed to buy things for myself close to my birthday. But now my birthday has passed so I picked up season two from Best Buy! I think this is the season where the show began to find its rhythm with the characters, relationships, and crime stories (though season four did seem to get off track a bit again) and I just love the characters.
And I couldn't resist picking up the collector's edition of Serenity. Sure, it annoys me that I bought the dvd when it first came out and why couldn't they have taken care of their fans then...but I'm a sucker for the Firefly 'verse so what am I gonna do?
Really, next time I bitch as to why I'm poor, feel free to link to this post and say, "Because you buy shit you really don't need, just want."
But I love this movie. I love the Firefly world. I love Mal Reynolds.
So yes, more dvds for watching is always good. And I highly recommend all of those that I purchased. Especially Supernatural - though I'd start with season one - because it's wonderful stuff.
Birthday fun was had the past few days involving the King Tut Exhibit in Philadelphia, the beach & sailing, reading of books and the wonderful gifts. I hung out with my friends, laughed a whole lot and was given loads of presents! I love gifts!
Friday Night Lights season one! I watched the first disc last night and managed to get my sister addicted to the show. My job is done.
I highly recommend everyone check it out. The first season is on sale for $ 19.99 and they're running a guarantee that if you don't like it, you can return it through this site - fnl guarantee.
I'm not into football and I never saw the movie, yet I love and adore this show.
I also got season one of Heroes because it's just awesome and amazing. I love the characters, I love the plots, I love that no one is what s/he seems at first, and it has brothers who love each other (Nathan & Peter Petrelli are two of my favorite things). I'm a sucker for the sibling relationship.
I loved how it wrapped up the plot point of that season and will begin with new ones. Shows like Lost have their place, but i do like some resolution every once-and-awhile.
Gift from the best friend because this show was made of awesome and oh how I loved Ricky Schroeder. And jason bateman was on season one and I've always loved him...I haven't started it yet, but this will be fun to revisit. Though I hope it holds up to the love I used to have for it. Nothing worse than revisiting a love of the past only to wonder what the hell I was thinking...
Other gifts include gift certificates, books, and a video i-pod from my sister. I was not expecting that at all and it made my day. Because I've wanted to upgrade from my mini i-pod forever, but had no money...woo-hoo. I'll have my video Ipod for my trip to Los Angeles!
Since I was on vacation the past week from work, we're doing my birthday celebration this afternoon in the office with cake and fun. this is why I compare my office to Happy Time from Dead Like Me. We love any excuse to party here.
I really need to stay out of Best Buy and the likes. My sister and I went in to purchase one thing and walked out with a few other things as well. We have no willpower, especially when it comes to tv-on-dvd.
This is what we went for because our love of this show is beyond normal. Really, when it first came out I thought I would give it a try and that it sounded interesting. And by all means, I should really dislike this show. It's mysogynistic and vulgar...but it's funny and charming and I can't help but love these boys.
We had been meaning to buy it. We saw it and we decided, "we might as well get a good copy of it." I love Ten. In a very different way than I loved Nine, but the show is just highly enjoyable.
It was only $ 20.00 and we're almost through seasons 1 & 2 again...so we looked at each other, pointed out that we're very bad people, and yet we still bought it. Actually, it's a good thing as we've gotten our mother addicted to this show. Mwahahaha.
Next time I wonder where all my money has gone, just remind me that I buy too many dvds and books. That I have a problem and should think of finding some sort of support group for my addiction.
I'm actuallly catching up on my Nano word count. I'm still behind by a bit, but if I keep managing to even put two hours in for the next few days, I should be back on schedule. Better yet, I'm really enjoying writing this piece at the moment. It's in an interesting place and the main character is going through a whole lot. And it makes it so much easier to make word counts when I'm liking the ideas that are flowing from my brain. Of course, come January when I go back to it, I'll probably weep at its terribleness, but for now, yay!

I'm a tool. Amazon was having a sale on first seasons of dvds and I picked up:
The Young Riders, one of my favorites from when I was in high school. And I still love it. I had rented it on Netflix to see if it was one of those shows that held up over time and it did. still love it. So when I saw it was fifteen bucks from Amazon, I had to get it.
And SGA was only fifteen bucks too. This one I've been meaning to get for awhile as I love the show and all it's over-the-top insanity. It's CRACK, people. So for fifteen bucks, I figured, early christmas gift to myself. I deserve it.
This should be a good thing, right? Shows I love at really cheap rates. Well, being a complete tool, I didn't verify the address it was being shipped to and it's going to my *old* address, the apartment. Now yes, I only recently moved and the mail forwarding is still in place, but UGH. I'm such an idiot. I wish I could blame the head cold from hell, but honestly, I just did the same thing a few weeks ago with an Old Navy order. Do I secretly miss living in my apartment complex so much that I pretend I still live there when it comes to packages?

So I went and set up a twitter account because the whole thing fascinates me. The idea of writing really short little sentences on what I'm up to throughout the day? Hee. Not good for someone with delusions of brilliance on a constant basis. But I did it. So if you have an account, feel free to friend me, or point me in the direction of yours.
But really, what I needed was a whole new place to blog and write about my thoughts. Because livejournal and vox aren't enough.
I was trying really hard not to spend money on things that weren't considered necessities until I'm caught up on certain bills. The ex-roommate and her draining of all my funds to cover her part of bills had left me in a dire predicament for a few months. But then I was in Best Buy with the sister (she needed a new telephone cord for her TIVO) and I saw...
Best Buy had both seasons one AND two on sale for $ 19.99 each. I couldn't resist. I love this show. I love the feel of it and the characters and how completely flawed and screwy they all are. And I couldn't resist buying it so that I could get the boy and my sister hooked on it as well (because really, that's what one should do with a great show - hook others on it).
In other news, is it wrong that I'm enjoying Gilmore Girls again? I know the majority of people I interact with are upset about the demise of Luke/Lorelai, but by the end of last season I was actually sick of them. Sure, if they had managed to write them into an interesting place without destroying the characters, I could've handled it, but they turned Lorelai into someone she wasn't and I'm not sure why. She's always been selfish and flakey, but she was also always independent and strong. Last season was just ridiculous. She was angry at Luke about the whole thing with his daughter (rightly so), but rather than speaking up and saying so, she sat back and let him treat her like crap. Huh? So Luke/Lorelai are gone and I'm not really upset about it because we get Christopher and I loved him since season one.
And don't get me started on how much I hated Rory in season five and six. Thankfully, I'm enjoying her character again.

Hoping to get to see The Departed this weekend with some friends and then I have film class on Sunday morning so who knows what we'll see there. It's apparently a good one (as hinted at our last class) that everyone's going to want to see. Here's to hoping, though I tend to take their idea of "good one" with a grain of salt, as a few years ago they said that about Triplets of Belleville, which made me want to kill myself.

Alrighty, I'm off. I still tend to use livejournal for the most part. Vox is interesting and I really do love the QoTD, but I'm used to livejournal and that's where most people still post.
Ciao!
I'm feeling incredibly out of touch with most things lately. I was dealing with the mother moving into the house last week and now the downstairs of the house is COVERED in her stuff. Fun times. So all my free time has pretty much been sucked up by helping her pack and move stuff in, and unpacking the last of our boxes from June (yeah, to quote Paris from Gilmore Girls, "the lazy runs deep" for me).
I'm way behind on my reading. I'm still not done The Book Thief and I think I'm going to have to return some of the books I got from the library and wait until I'm caught up. Boo hiss.
I know that I could work more reading back into my schedule, but when I get home from work and school, it's like I have no energy left and it's already late and all I want to do is crawl into bed. So that's what I do. Usually watching stuff on my Tivo that I'm behind on.
I just want to get caught up on everything again. I need to suck it up, stop whining, and do everything that needs to be done. In the end, I'll feel much better.
I did pick up a few things at Target over the past few days:
West Wing Season six was on sale for 20 bucks, so I picked it up. Is it weird that my collection goes from Season 1-3 and then I'll have 6 and 7? I hated season five with a passion and four was sorta dumb too.
Yay, I could finally afford to get season two of Veronica Mars! I love this show like almost nothing else. I love the characters and the storylines and the smart dialogue. It's really good stuff. If you've never seen it, rent season one and you'll be mainlining it soon enough. (And last night's premiere of season three was SO GOOD!)
Last year if you had told me that I would love and adore a show with Jared Padalecki, I would've punched you in the face. He was such a goob as Dean on the Gilmore Girls, but as Sam Winchester, gah, he's freaking adorable. And one cannot forget Jensen "hottest man ever to walk the planet" Ackles. Together they are the best brothers on television. Love them so much. Of course, this may be why I haven't gotten much done as I keep rewatching season one of Supernatural over and over.
Okay, I guess I should go do some work. End of the quarter and I have reports to get done like whoa.
It's Thursday, the yucky heat is not likely to let up, and my allergies have been on the fritz for the past week or so...but I'm in a good mood.
Why, you ask?
My sister and I have an Eeyore bank that we fill with all our change and we consider this our "fun" money. No matter how broke we are, no matter what's going on, this is money we use for dvds or concert tickets or whatever. So I cashed it in yesterday and we had $111.00 in change. So I went immediately to Best Buy and bought Doctor Who! I got Doctor Who! Sure, I had copies (illegal? Me? Never!) of the first season already, but I wanted the good copy! And now my sister and I are planning to watch all of season one and two over the next week or so. I might have an illness, but I don't care.
I was also able to pick up the first season of Weeds as well without going over our change alloted money (okay, thanks to my Rewards dollars...the best program for a girl with a dvd addiction like myself). If you haven't seen this show, I highly suggest picking it up to rent from Netflix or blockbuster. It's hysterical. And for the Jeffrey Dean Morgan fangirls, he makes an appearance or two as the dead husband. Hee.
I wonder if it's sad that this sort of thing makes me extremely happy. Hhmmm...
Don't really care.

In other news, in case you live under a rock somewhere, Lance Bass came out of the closet. Is anyone truly surprised by this (aside from the people who were "surprised" when Rosie O'Donnell came out?) announcement? I've loved the boy for years, and honestly that should be everyone's first clue that he's gay. I tend to only like gay men.
Also saw Justin Timberlake's new video. That boy is so weird. So very weird. And sometimes he scares me a little bit. However, he's so hot. Dammit. I'm a shallow girl and him all looking superhot forces me to watch the video more than once.
