So I watched Saturday Night Live this past weekend because Michael Phelps was on. He really should stick to swimming and being adorable. That said, I had to share this because it was hysterical and sadly very true.
I'm seriously wondering how anyone who saw this speech could not vote for this man. I don't claim he's a miracle worker or that he doesn't have certain things I disagree with, but he's geniune and really believes in America. And his speech is tough, but talks about change and how it can be done.
I watched the RNC, trying to be open-minded, but god, when it wasn't angering me beyond belief, I was bored out of my skull. And then they mock community organizers, people who care and help others in their neighborhoods? I just...how can anyone be voting for McCain? Please explain it to me.
You know what, I realize this is a campaign and that Hilary wants to win. I don't begrudge her that. She's not my choice for the democratic nomination, but I don't think she shouldn't be allowed to continue campaigning until all the states have voted.
That said. I was reading this article, Obama Fights Perception He Is Elitist and it really annoyed me.
Clinton, campaigning in Brownsburg, Indiana, tried to perpetuate the elitist label on Obama, pointing out his opposition to a proposal she supports, a temporary suspension of the federal tax on gasoline of 18.4 cents per gallon.
"I find it frankly a little offensive that people who don't have to worry about filling up their gas tank or what they buy when they go to the supermarket, think that it's somehow illegitimate to provide relief for the millions and millions of Americans who are on the brink of losing their jobs, unable to keep up with their daily expenses," she said.
First off, I see nothing wrong with a presidential candidate being ELITE. That means better than the rest! Since when is that a bad thing? I want a president that is better and smarter than me. Look what happened when people voted for the guy they could have a beer with? Eight years of President Bush. ::shudders::
Secondly, I'm quite proud of Obama for not backing a ridiculous tax break on gas. That's not going to SOLVE the problem. It won't suddenly make gas more readily available. What we need to do is increase the tax and use that to truly focus on an energy plan. It's just insane to "temporarily" remove the tax.
Finally, is Clinton taking an idea out of the Republican brain workings? Because when you're in debt as much as we are, should you really be *decreasing* taxes?
I'm attempting to come down from the fun that was Super Tuesday yesterday while battling a sinus infection. I'm a complete political science nerd and was glued to MSNBC (sometimes switching to CNN during commercial breaks) for all the results from the primaries. I think it was so great that so many states moved up their primaries (including mine in NJ) so that we had a say this time. Because last time around, Kerry would NOT have gotten my vote in the primary. Mostly, I love how close the democratic race is at the moment. We've got two great candidates and I can't help but think that a lot of people feel the same way I do this year. I voted for Barack Obama, he's my preference for a few reasons, but I also like Hillary Clinton and wouldn't be angry if she got the nomination (my only worry there is that people have this great irrational hate of the woman and I don't want the Republicans to win).
Mostly, part of my love of for Obama is his speeches. He just moves me. He is such a good speaker and I think the American people deserve a speaker like him after Bush.
Do I need to provide proof? Here he is from Martin Luthor King Day...
It's going to be interesting to see how the democratic primaries continue to play out.
It's sad that Edwards is Expected to Drop Out of Race because I did like him. He wasn't my first choice, but he was a good candidate. Frankly, I liked all three of the main democratic candidates though I'm supporting Obama. I think Obama is really the best for the country at the moment, someone not so engulfed by the established politics. And honestly, I just love to watch and read him give speeches. After eight years of a President that can't formulate a sentence, it would be nice to have a great speaker.

I finished books that I haven't already read a billion times, as I've been doing the past few months with rereading the Harry Potter books and some others that I really love. Sure, they're both young adult books, but as that's the genre I write most of my stuff in, I always consider it research.
This is the third book in Rachel Caine's young adult Morganville Vampires series. The storyline is getting even more interesting as we learn more about the vampires and why they're living in Morganville as Claire becomes involved with things. Also, you finally get to see that not all the people in town aside from our main characters are happy about the vampires.
Good book.
If you like young adult and/or vampire stories with an interesting female lead, I'd suggest checking out this series.
This is a sequel to the young adult book I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter. It continues to follow Cammie through a year at spy school, as she prepares for a life of espionage and deals with all the fun of being a teenage girls.
It's an easy read. I just loved the idea of this book and I'm always a fan of strong girl/woman characters who are smart and kick butt.
I am back from outer space. Or finally recovered from the holidays and trying to get my act together for another new year. I'm hoping that 2008 is better than 2007, especially health-wise. I find that the constant sinus infections wreak havoc on my plans because I become lazy and inconsolable. Sure, some people would push past the pain and still accomplish things, but I'm not one of them. Maybe that should be my main goal for this year - to suck it up - but I doubt that will ever happen.

Today is the New Hampshire primary. I'm interested to see who wins on the democratic side and utterly frightened by the Republicans. I'm still trying to comprehend Mike Huckabee as the nominee. I mean, I understand that there aren't many options on the Republican side, but the man doesn't believe in evolution. Let me repeat: he doesn't believe in evolution. How can we have a President that doesn't accept proven science?
On the Democrat's side, I've been leaning toward Obama for awhile mostly because he is the sort of candidate that I think people can rally around and he really would be a change, which is something I think we need right now. But I like Clinton and Edwards too. For once being in a state where I have no real say in the primaries might actually be okay...as the three forerunners are all good choices for various reasons.

Okay, back to work. Much to do.
This is from back on October 14th, but I still like to re-read it from time-to-time as it makes me laugh. So I'm going to share Stephen Colbert's Op-Ed piece that ran when Maureen Dowd dared him to do it.
An excerpt:
"I’d like to thank Maureen Dowd for permitting/begging me to write her column today. As I type this, she’s watching from an overstuffed divan, petting her prize Abyssinian and sipping a Dirty Cosmotinijito. Which reminds me: Before I get started, I have to take care of one other bit of business:
Bad things are happening in countries you shouldn’t have to think about. It’s all George Bush’s fault, the vice president is Satan, and God is gay."
Watching any clips from the Republican debates makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry. Seriously, these men are insane. The lot of them. It's never a good sign when the most reasonable Republican is Ron Paul. Also, is it possible for Rudy to stop hiding behind 9/11 for just a few minutes? Except for being visible on the day of a tragedy, he was never a mayor that anyone liked and in fact, he's the one who put emergency services inside the towers, the most likely terrorist attack site. Yeah, he'll be really good on defense.
Not that the Democratic debates are much better, but at least they aren't making up words and crazy stories about how Iran wants to take over the world.
