What does your name mean and why did your parents choose it for you?
Submitted by mommy2two.
My name is Marianne. I was named after Marianne Dashwood from Sense & Sensibility because my mother loves Jane Austen more than is healthy (my sister also has a name from one of her books). That's the basic gist of my name. Also, both my grandmother's were Mary so my mom says that was in the back of her mind, but really it was just that she loved the names from Jane Austen books.
How many jobs have you had in the past five years? Where and what did you do?
Submitted by M.
I've been working for the same non-profit organization for the last five years. We're a transportation management organization in New Jersey - the goal is to get single drivers off the road to help save the environment and ease congestions...promoting carpooling and transit. Parts of my job include updating the company's website, writing a column, and benefits for staff.
Aside from that I've done freelance writing/editing jobs on and off over the years, but I've always had the steady job. ::knocks on wood::
What would you consider to be your 15 minutes of fame so far in life?
When I was eight and my sister was five, she and I ran a lemonade stand on our corner. We actually made good money (well, for us as little kids, good money = enough for each of us to have lunch & ice cream at McDonalds) because we lived diagonal from a baseball field and all the guys playing softball came over. Anyway, a reporter for our town's local paper drove by, took our photo, and ran a little article on us in the newspaper. We were famous for being little entrepreneurs.
Tell us two truths and a lie about yourself.
Random order so you have to figure out which is which. (Not that I think it will be hard.)
- I'm scared of clowns.
- I've published a novel.
- I've worked for a congressman.
In 5 words or less, who are you?

crazy, liberal & pop-culture obsessed
I feel like I should do a real update here, but my life is pretty damn boring at the moment. My day consists of: get up, curse horny plants for allergy problems, go to the gym (where I curse trainers and whoever invented pull-ups), work all day, come home with many plans only to collapse on sofa, sleep.
I can't imagine why no one is banging down my door to right a tell-all novel about said life.

While I don't discuss it a whole lot here, I feel it should be said every once-and-awhile that I'm a liberal, blue state Jersey girl. I'm Pro-Choice. I'm Anti-Bush. And I am one of those constituents who is constantly writing real letters to her congressmen and senators. I always try to be respectful of opposing opinions as long as people are respectful of me, but it's unlikely you'll change my mind on any topic. I'm stubborn like that.

Oh, and I'm also overly attached to certain television shows. Buffy has been off the air for a few years now and it is still my all-time favorite show that I love to talk about and rewatch.
Heroes has become one of those shows over the course of this year. Man, it's just brilliant writing and acting. I love that while there are all these questions, we get answers for them...and then there are new questions. Lost could take a lesson from that. But what does it say about me that 1) one of my favorite characters on the show is the serial killer and 2) the people who have the most chemistry all play relatives?
50 Questions (stolen from RPM and I'm bored)
1. How tall are you barefoot? 5'7
2. Have you ever smoked heroin? Heroin? Uh no. Alas, I won't be starring in any Behind the Music episodes any time soon.
3. Do you own a gun? No. I'm anti-gun. My grandmother tried to give me her shotguns before she died (she was the grandmother from the Ozarks' farm) and fortunately, my mother wouldn't let her, probably mentioning that I have enough trouble with injuring myself without weaponry.
4. Who's your best friend? My sister.
5. Do you get nervous before "meeting the parents"? Not really. And with the boy, seeing as we were friends for ten years before we started dating, I had already met his parents in the friend capacity, so much easier.
6. What music are you embarrassed to admit that you listen to? Should I have shame in my music loves? Sure, the boy seems to think that my love of cheesy pop music is something to hide, but I don't.
7. What's your favourite Christmas song? "Oh Holy Night"
8. What do you prefer to drink in the morning? Water and a glass of orange juice
9. Can you do push-ups? Yes, my trainer makes me do push-ups and pull-ups. Never casually mention that you want awesome arms with a trainer. They go *crazy*.

13. What is your secret weapon to lure in the opposite sex? It's my siren call, I'm sure.
14. Do you own a knife? I own a set of kitchen knives, but if you're looking to me to help you dispose of a body, you might want to keep looking.
15. Do you have A.D.D.? Sometimes I think so as an adult, but I was never diagnosed. I was just labeled "precocious."
16. Middle Name? Eileen

33. What songs do you sing in the shower? Whatever comes on in the cd player.
34. What did you fear was going to get you at night as a child? The tree outside my window was going to eat me. It got to the point that my parents switched my room with my sister's. And my older brother got in trouble for letting his five-year-old sister watch Poltergeist with him.

What's in a screen/user name? Tell us how you found yours.

Does that mean for vox? Or for AIM? My vox name is Tommygirl. Tommy is a nickname that has stuck around for man years to the point that family calls me by it and my little bit gets confused whenever someone actually uses my real name around her, like "who the hell is that?"
What's the best way to get on your good side?
Submitted by Manon-It-All.
The best way to get on my good side is to make me laugh. Be smart and funny and I'll probably love you. But honestly, I don't think I'm a hard person to befriend...I'm quite easy about letting people in a certain amount right off the bat, and from there, what the person does with that leeway is up to them. Some end up becoming closer to me, some stay where they are, and others just completely lose my trust.
As always, I'm not sure where the heck my weekend disappeared to and once again, I don't really have anything to show for it. I'm at work and I'm a little bit bored while I wait for my boss to get me the files I need to do my job.
